How to use the Interaction Settings to Connect Different Charts using Different Datasets
Background:
This article outlines the process of utilizing the Interaction Setting in Dashboards. The Interaction setting enables different charts, utilizing diverse datasets, to interact seamlessly when they share a common field. Employing the Interaction Setting proves beneficial, especially when employing a slicer to filter all charts within the dashboard.
Steps to Complete:
1. Create a new dashboard or use an existing one with charts employing different datasets that share a common field (e.g., State).
2. Add a slicer of your choice containing values of the shared field in both charts (e.g., State).

3. Select one of the charts. In the bottom right-hand corner, locate the toolbar and select the link button.

This action modifies the dashboard setting to display interaction settings. In the ensuing window, click on the slicer you wish to connect, then click on the report affected by that slicer. If they are not connected, the table will display a gray circle with an x:

If connected, which may require manual action by clicking on the icon, the icon will be green with half an arrow. This indicates that the report/scenario is being filtered by the currently selected slicer/scenario.

A slightly different icon signifies that the scenarios can filter each other.

If visuals are based on different datasets, you may observe the first symbol in gray. Clicking on the icon reveals the Interaction Panel, enabling you to bind common values from both datasets. This facilitates visuals interacting with each other despite disparate datasets.
