What's New in Wyn Enterprise Server v9.1

Wyn Enterprise v9.1 grows the platform with the addition of two new modules, wynSheets and wynSmartDocs. The release also sharpens the capabilities customers already lean on every day: embedding Wyn documents inside host applications, putting AI to work on governed data, and keeping everything fast and well governed as deployments get larger.

This release puts a lot of its energy into the core data layer, since that is what every report, dashboard, notebook, spreadsheet, and document ultimately runs on. Analytic Data Models, the data engine, scheduling, security, and the admin portal all move forward in v9.1. The two new modules give business users new ways to work with the trusted data those improvements produce.

Two New Modules in v9.1

This version introduces two modules that extend how teams turn governed data into everyday work:

  • wynSheets: A comprehensive spreadsheet that connects directly to governed Wyn data, so analysts and business users can run ad-hoc calculations, what-if scenarios, and last-mile analysis on live data without exporting it first. Sheets tables can also be published back as data sources for Wyn reports and dashboards. Read the Introduction to wynSheets .
  • wynSmartDocs: Template-based document automation for Word and PDF. Teams can design SmartDocuments, bind them to Wyn data, and generate documents one at a time, in large batches, or using API requests. Read the Introduction to wynSmartDocs .

Core Data and Server Enhancements

The core platform sees broad updates to modeling, performance, distribution, and governance:

  • Reworked Analytic Data Models: a redesigned modeling experience with in-place entity previews and faster saves.
  • A faster, more transparent data engine: more optimized analytic SQL generation and execution, plus visibility into the query running behind a document.
  • Stronger governance: more flexible data-security rules built into Data Models.
  • More capable scheduling: task delegation, admin task management, new APIs, and Microsoft Graph email support.
  • A smoother admin portal: better performance when managing large numbers of organizations, users, and roles.

Reworked Analytic Data Models

Analytic Data Models get a completely redesigned experience in v9.1. You can now preview entities directly in the Model Designer while you build, which cuts the guesswork out of modeling and saves a trip back to the data to confirm what you are looking at. Saving large models is faster, and Cached Data Models now support dynamic data sources, so cached performance no longer forces you to give up flexible source connections.

These changes make data modeling quicker to design and more dependable to consume across every plugin that relies on it.

Data Engine Enhancements: Faster and More Transparent

The data engine that powers analytic queries is both faster and easier to query in this release. SQL generation and execution for data model analytic queries have been improved to ensure faster execution and data retrievals. Users can now edit the custom SQL on Semantic Data Model entities after they have been defined rather than having to recreate them.

Just as useful, the data engine can now show the analytic query being executed directly in the user interface. That visibility makes it far easier to trace performance and fine-tune resource usage, and because the data layer feeds everything else, those gains carry through to reports, dashboards, spreadsheets, notebooks, and documents alike.

Faster Dataset Cache Refreshes

Cached datasets with complex, multi-level dependencies refresh more efficiently in v9.1. Rather than refreshing everything together, dependent caches are now optimized to refresh independently, which speeds up the whole chain when datasets are built on top of one another.

Security and Governance Enhancements

Data-security rules built into Data Models are more flexible in v9.1, with custom security entities that support more complex governance use cases than before. New endpoints also let a custom User Context flow through to the data source at execution time, so data access is governed per user based on identity the host application passes in, without rebuilding that logic inside Wyn. On the integration side, new API endpoints allow batch updates for token validity, which simplifies token management in embedded deployments.

Scheduling and Distribution: Built for Collaboration and Embedding

Scheduled distribution picks up several practical upgrades. Task delegation lets users hand scheduled tasks to one another, and administrators can now manage tasks across users, which extends collaboration past document creation and into how those documents get delivered. Audit logs carry richer context for scheduled tasks, and failed tasks now trigger clearer email notifications, so problems surface sooner.

For embedded scenarios, new API v2 endpoints cover task management and execution, which means scheduling can be wired cleanly into a host application rather than sitting apart from it. Email connectivity also expands with support for Microsoft Graph against Exchange Online.

Admin Portal and Performance

Administering security resources gets noticeably smoother. The admin portal now performs better when you are working with large numbers of organizations, users, and roles, and data model caching has been tuned to refresh at the right time and cut down on unnecessary database queries. The net effect is a more responsive experience for the people who keep a Wyn deployment running day to day.

Additional Customer-Requested Enhancements

As always, this release also includes updates driven directly by customer feedback. A new API endpoint lets host applications define custom User Contexts to pass identity information based on their own business logic, and the OEM installation package adds more configuration options, including the ability to set the installation port.

Built on a Stronger Core

Wyn Enterprise v9.1 deepens the foundation the whole platform stands on and broadens what business users can do with it. With reworked data models, a faster and more transparent data engine, more collaborative scheduling, tighter governance, and two new modules in wynSheets and wynSmartDocs, this release keeps Wyn moving toward a wholistic, governed, self-service analytics platform.

“Wyn is a great tool with an awesome support team.”
Wyn has been a game-changing addition to our tech stack. It has enabled us to save a massive amount of time for our engineering team by pushing more of the workload to BI-focused team members such as myself, and has allowed us to create new deliverables for clients at a speed that is unmatched.

“Writing reports are easy to use as well as very flexible to meet customers' needs.”
Love the flexibility of creating reports from simple to very complicated. I have yet to find something that Wyn Enterprise hasn't been able to support. We also use Wyn Enterprise for a lot of our internal documents as well that are on a monthly scheduler to automatically execute.

“Remarkably simple yet very powerful”
Simple to install and deploy, great customer support and service. And support team have been AWSOME, always quick to answer a question or get you the resources you need to make your project a success.

“Great reporting platform and support team”
The reporting platform continues to evolve and keep up with changes in technology; the support team is solid and responds quickly, and the product team listens and responds to feedback and product needs. Our software solution requires a flexible reporting platform that allows users to run canned reports and build their own and this is a pretty good fit.
